A brief portion of Psalm 119 is our psalm for Sunday. Two verses state, 129 Your decrees are wonderful;
therefore I obey them with all my heart. 130 When your word is opened it gives light it gives understanding to the simple.

Seeking understanding ties it to the Gospel reading. This portion also reminds us that when we understand we put greater trust in God who has ordered all for our benefit. God is in charge in spite of what appears to be counter. It is all in the timing and we must act with patience until the time. Remain steadfast and the prize is ours.

The closing verse of the lection is, “136 My eyes shed streams of tears, because people do not keep your teaching.” How true the concern, the tears, and the disgust we feel because people do not understand and act out from their misunderstanding causing more problems. Masks, racism, unfaithfulness to God are just a couple of areas of a lack of understanding for the Creator and the creation. You know the rest of the story. Seek understanding!
