Message From Pastor Don ~ July 23rd 2020
The second reading for Sunday from Romans is ripe for our reflecting. “26 The Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words. 27 And God, who searches the heart, knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.
28 We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.”
This passage begins to develop the role of the Spirit in our professed inabilities, whatever the may be. When we say, “we cannot do something”, God showers us with the Spirit, drenching us with what we need. Example: “If you cannot pray” open your mind to the Spirit leading you to what you need to pray about. There are always people asking for special prayers, but there is also God sending us who and what we need to pray for.
In the end what matters is that the Spirit directs us into the way of God’s purpose for our life and for the salvation of the world. Maybe more on Romans 8 tomorrow. I think there is more to reflect.
