Message from Pastor Taylor ~ July 17th 2020
24 [Jesus] put before [the crowds] another parable: “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to someone who sowed good seed in his field; 25 while everybody was asleep, an enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and then went away.
The first part of this parable was a public utterance, setting the stage for a discussion of good versus evil. What we do not perceive as we read the words told to the crowd is that they will be left in the dark, having to apply them on their own. That sometimes leaves room for danger.
It reminds me of all of the times I was told something and then had to decide if they were true, safe, able to apply, and, maybe, even if they were part of the integrity we are called to practice in our live. Parents gave us advice and we often thought the advice was to better prepare us for what would be coming later. After all they would not put us in danger. A boss may ask us to follow a bad business practice for personal gain and we have to decide if that is who we want to be. You have heard the phrase “go jump off of a cliff” and you have to decide if that will put yew in jeopardy.
So it is with the parable good seed is sown in the field and the evil
one come in and sows bad seed. As the grain is ripening it is not always clear which is good and which is bad.
Don’t judge too soon.! Love the seed and see how it matures!
